David Edis was born in 1827 and died in 1905 aged 78, son of Edward Edis and came as an Assisted British Immigrant in March 1853 on the 'Thames' with Hannah Smith born 1824 his wife to be and died 1905 aged 81.  Hannah was the daughter of John Smith, the couple were both of Farcet, Huntingdonshire, UK. 

David, Luke, William and John Edward lived at Mickleham.  John Edward Edis was the postmaster at Mickleham for many years.  William Edis lived and farmed at Mickleham and was instrumental in the building of a church at Providence Place.

"William Edis, of Mickleham, for the sum of 5 pounds of lawful British money, upon Special Trust and to the intent that a Chapel of meeting house and School shall be erected thereon by the members of a society of Community and Religious persons called “Primitive Methodists” belonging to Primitive Methodist connection resident at Providence Place, Yuroke".

In a letter from Robert Langford Sidebottom to the Board of Education in 1867 regarding school funding he mentions.....In the case of David Edis returned as having nine of his family and three of the sons have gone to business a considerable time ago having finished their education. Possibly referring to John, Luke and David Edis.
